Bradshaw (Guyon Guyon or Giri-Giri) painting by Melissa Wainer
Painting on stretched canvas on a 30 x 36 cm frame
Artist Melissa Wainer. Daughter of famous artist Kevin Wainer. Keven was the first Aboriginal person to begin painting the Bradshaw figures on canvas. Melissa is carrying on the tradition of painting both Wandjina’s and the Bradshaw figures. The Bradshaw figures are thought to have been painted by a spirit bird who used his bleeding beak to paint the fine details of this figurative rock art. This Period of painting is late Pleistocene and thought to be at least 45,000 or more years old. The Kwini tribe describe the bird who did the paintings as Guyon Guyon or Giri-Giri.
