Al Mason was an established artist in Kununurra and was recognised for his humerus depictions of the Kimberley boab, its most well recognised and revered tree. Acknowledged to have been introduced to the Kimberley by early migrants around 72,000 years ago, this tree was a well recognised food source for aboriginal people prior to the arrival of Europeans, and is still recognised as the tree that was too proud and was turned upside down by the Wandjna spirits. No-one since has managed to capture the humour and realistic depictions of the Kimberley Boab tree in the same way as Al Mason. His legacy is recognised in these depictions on a number of products produced in this Shopify site. A percentage of the sales go to his children.
